Until We Meet Again

When this post was forming in my head, it made me laugh and cry at the same time. My buddy, Uncle Pete and I were born on the same day. So when that time rolls around, I always think of him.

Uncle Pete, aka "The Monster",  was a great guy. Not a monster at all. He had earned that moniker in his early days. You know, when the kids were all brats and deserved to get yelled at. He's actually Billy's uncle, so I didn't meet him until we were dating and by then he, and his Italian temper, had mellowed quite nicely. He was quiet and ornery. He was a teaser with a cute sideways little grin that made you think he was up to something. He used to chew on the corner of a pillow or blanket and watch the horse races on TV. I liked him right away.

Sadly, he is no longer with us, and so, today, I'm remembering him and other family members that have left us too soon. I miss each and everyone. They all had different qualities that made them special in their own way.

Just as a disclaimer, most of these pictures are from my photo albums so they are scanned in and not of the best quality.

My mother was a great lady. Everyone loved her. She was bubbly and fun...the life of the party. She could get really silly. As a young teenager I remember sometimes being embarrassed by some of her antics. What I wouldn't give to be in her presence again. She lived for her children and her grandchildren. She totally identified with kids. She passed away just before her first great grandchild was born. I always tell Zach how much he would have loved her.

She loved to wear bright happy colors
Love you, Mommy!!
The next dynamic duo are Billy's grandparents on his dad's side. Howard and Cleo...quite the spirited pair. They were a couple of salty souls. Full of piss and vinegar!!! I did not take these next pictures, but I really like the expressions on their faces. They look really happy!

Beautiful Smiles

Howard and Cleo
Debbie, Billy's cousin, was much too young when we lost her. She was beautiful and full of life. She was fun, sassy and a little edgy. Fortunately, her daughter and grand-daughter look and act just like her.

At her cousin Marilyn's wedding

Uncle Russ, another quiet one. I liked his sarcastic wit.

Uncle Everett introduced us to karaoke in his lounge-lizard style. Always chewing on a toothpick and driving some sporty car or a motorcycle.

Uncle Everett and Aunt Lawanna

Aunt Nancy was so sweet and pretty. She worried about everything.

With Billy's sister, Tammy
Grandma Kildow. I always loved going to her house and just hanging out. Laying around the living room or out in the kitchen. Eating, singing or walking to the market.

Billy's in the kitchen with Grandma
Grandma and Grandpa Daly were absolutely the cutest couple. They lived into their 90's

Such a cute couple
My Grandparents, Ray and Anna, lived in Washington. The last time we visited they told us their story and you could see how much in love they still were.

 So Devoted
My Uncle Gene and Aunt Elaine. I didn't get to see them very often, but they were my fondest and closest relatives and I loved them and my cousins. We always picked up right where we left off whenever we got together.

My niece's father-in-law, Terry. He was a big part of my life when I was a kid. My dad left and my mom had five unruly kids she needed help with so she called him, an elder in our congregation. Then years later my niece married his son. Funny how things work out.

This was a bittersweet moment. Thank you for indulging me.

Baby, It's Cold Outside

There is more than just a nip in the air. It's downright COLD!!! Glad I'm chillin' in the house instead of freezing my fingers off in the frigid pool water. Our house has no insulation, so I'm not kidding about chillin'. There are parts of the day that we can go outside to warm up.

But the cold does not make me "blue" - I like it. Just throw on a couple more blankets, put on a nice warm sweater, your fuzzy slippers and have a little hot toddy of some kind and it's all good.

The theme today is the color blue. Blue makes you think of cold weather, ice, wintery, cold, crisp,  BRRRRR!! It's also my favorite color.

We will start off with a beautiful sight we saw out our airplane window after take off from Seattle. We were on our way home from Boise in March of this year and the connector in Seattle was a little out of our way, but the view was worth it. Holy smokes, how beautiful!

The other day I was at a pool and the spa jets were going and I noticed that cool bubbles were forming on the surface...fascinating!

Melissa, I thought of this next one for Russell. It looks "Briny" and blue. If not, I will make it my mission to find just the right pic.

Love the color combination

I used to have these vines in my front yard. I loved them, but they took over, so they had to go.

Time Marches On

THE END IS NEAR!!!  Maybe not tomorrow, but, then again, I'm not Mayan...I'm Inca.

The "end" I'm talking about is another year coming to a close and here we are, one year older and, if we're fortunate, maybe even a little wiser. Your age is more than just a number. It's the sum total of what you've learned over the years, how much of that you actually apply in life divided by your attitude. Attitude is everything. If you think you're old, then you're old. I like to try and defy my age every chance I get.

Do you act your age? Sometimes I do and sometimes I act like I'm twelve. They say you're only as old as you feel. Well, some days I feel like I'm a hundred. Of course, there are days I could do cartwheels, but I'd probably break a hip.

Older things are not only interesting. They have character and a story, but they can also be beautiful. Therefore, today's post is dedicated to the old, the aged and to lovely things that are past their prime.

This rose is not going to win any prizes, and, yet, it still caught my attention.

Still interesting and beautiful
I found this old pair of shriveled figs quite photo-worthy as well.

How much work have these seen?
This next one is not a great picture technically, but I just had to post it.

Sweet old Glady
These next few were taken the last weeks of Annie Oakley's long life. What a sweet, beautiful dog she was.

Notice, I did not add a picture of myself. Go ahead, Billy, make fun.

Disney Games

Today's post is a game. I'm crazy about games. Some would argue that I'm just crazy...maybe I am. Be that as it may, the game is afoot.

On Sunday, me and two of my boys went to The Happiest Place on Earth. Of course, I had a mission. I took pictures of things up close or in obscure places. Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to determine where these photos were taken and/or what they are. For those of you who have ever read Games Magazine, these were called Eyeball Benders.

I'm guessing that some will be too easy and some will be too hard. I'm trying to please everybody here. If you are not a Disney fan, just enjoy the pictures. They are bright and eye-catching. I also threw a few in of my faithful companions.

I'll give you a couple of hints. We never made it to Fantasy Land or Toon Town. We did go to California Adventure, but we did not go to Hollywood, Bugs Land or Cars Land. There are fifteen and the answers are at the bottom.

Game on!!!!
